Buffalo disk's have been extremely popular over the last few years due to their good name and robust technology. While very good hard disk drives, Buffalo, like all other hard drives, they do fail. A sudden failure of the Buffalo system normally means that the raid configuration or electronics has failed in most cases.

Recovery Process:

Depending on the type of Buffalo system, the data recovery process can take several paths depending on the Buffalo configuration of your system.

In all cases all hard disks are imaged as part of our standard recovery procedure. This ensures the intergity of the original hard disk's.

We then work with the hard disk images to process the Buffalo system by recompiling the data. This process depends on your Buffalo configutation but often involves de-stripping or recompiling the hard disk images and then processing the data.

We are the only data recovery company that images all hard disks before and after de-stripping-recompiling to ensure the highest possible chance of recovering your data.

Buffalo Raid Configuration:

Buffalo devices support several different data storage configurations, which provide the owner with different data protection levels and different recovery chances if the Buffalo NAS (Network Attacxhed Storage) systems fails.

RAID 0: Data is distributed across the drives. This is the best-performing configuration with maximum data capacity. A single drive failure causes loss of all the data. This method is gradually getting replaced with other raid configurations but is still being used in older Buffalo NAS systems.

RAID 1: Two shard disks are mirrored. This configuration provides great speed but only half of the potential storage capacity. This configuration is rarely used on Buffalo devices but we still see some Buffalo NAS systems with this configuration.

JBOD: Data on the Buffalo NAS System is spanned along all disks. This ensures full storage capacity and good performance. Single drive failure may cause all data loss. We also see this confirguration on older Buffalo NAS devices.

RAID 5: This is now the most popular and the default for the latest Buffalo NAS systems. Data is distributed across the drives using backward parity rotation. This configuration is fast but space equal to one disk's capacity is lost. The Buffalo NAS system will continue to operate normally even after single drive failure.

Buffalo Hard drive systems support different interfaces. Some of the interfaces supported include: Buffalo PATA Drives, Buffalo SATA Drives, Buffalo Portable Drives, Buffalo Mobile Drives, Buffalo IDE Drives, Buffalo SATA Drives, Buffalo SATA II Drives, Buffalo SATA 2 Drives, Buffalo SATA III Drives, Buffalo SATA 3 Drives, Buffalo eSATA, Buffalo SAS Drives, Buffalo SCSI Drives, iSCSI, Buffalo ESDI Drives, Buffalo Fibre Channel Drives, Buffalo USB Drives, Buffalo Firewire Drives and Buffalo PCMCIA Drives.
