Case Studies

Case Study 1:

Apple Macbook Pro – Mechanical Damage

Issue

Everytime client turned on Macbook Pro they got a blue screen and as a result of this the Macbook would not boot up. No matter what keys were pressed on boot up the system would go straight to the blue screen. Client took the Macbook to Apple store to get it looked at and they removed the hard drive and replaced it with a new hard drive. They connected old drive to a usb reader but it would not read the hard drive, in fact they could not get the hard drive to be recognised. The Apple store recommended yourselves for recovering the data.

Our Solution

We diagnosed the hard drive as having a mechanical damage to the read/write heads and the disk platters. It later turned out that the Macbook was dropped (client forgot about this) and since then the Macbook would not work. There was some minor media damage to the disk platters which would mean a partial recovery. We completed a platter swap on hard drive and extracted 97% of the data.

* Even if your Mac hard drive has media damage, we can still recover the data.

Case Study 2:

A Dropped Buffalo Ministation

Issue

Client had a Buffalo Ministation which had 1TB of space. The client dropped the Buffalo Ministation hard drive. Client connected the Buffalo Ministation to his laptop but it was nowhere to be seen. Client looked in Device Manager, My Computer etc but could not find the hard drive. There was a bing type noise coming for the Buffalo Ministation suggesting all was not well with the Buffalo Ministation hard drive. The light was still flashing on the front of the hard drive indicating something was happening inside the casing.

Our Solution

We diagnosed that the hard drive had motor & read write head damage. We recommended a platter exchange to client and proceeded with the procedure. It was a complete success and we backed up data to a portable 1TB hard drive.

* If you have dropped your hard drive, please contact us for a quote as we have recovered 1000’s of dropped hard drives over the years.

Case Study 3:

Failed HP Proliant Server

Issue

IT Administrator received an alert that the server was not working. He went into office to find that the system had rebooted to dos screen. The hard disks seemed to be spinning okay but there was beeping noises coming from server. IT Administrator rebooted system and then received a message saying the Raid 5 array was invalid. The beeping continued until IT Administrator switched of the server. As the HP server was not giving any rebuild options and there was beeping noises coming from system, IT Administrator contacted us straight away as he did not want to mess around with system as it contained business critical data.

Our Solution

We received the 4 sas drives in and diagnosed that there was motor failure on two of the sas disks. We upgraded the motor on the hard drives and imaged 100% of the hard drives. We imaged the two working disks in the raid array and processed the system. We received this system on a Saturday morning and had it processed for 9am Monday morning.
