Netgear Data Recovery

I have been looking for a reliable external hard drive for some time, and bought the Netgear SC101 on the advice of some friends. Although I had some problems with it initially, including a very slow installation, eventually I thought that we had solved all the problems. However, I am now finding that the hard drive loses connectivity continually throughout the day, and now I have trouble waking up the unit at all and accessing my data. I opened up my laptop this morning to discover that the Netgear box had not completely shut down yesterday, and it seems that at least some of my information is no longer available. I have tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, and have also attempted to get it working through disk manager. After changing the drive letter, I thought that this had worked, but when I went back into Control Panel, I could not see the drive at all. I am getting more and more annoyed with the hard drive, as it won’t allow me to look at the data I have saved.

I am using a Netgear Readynas Suo, which usually has around 430gb of storage. However, there have been problems with the hard drive which means that a lot of the space available as memory on the drive is just completely vanished. I know that I have several large folders of data, but none of them are large enough to take up the space. I have gone from having 430gb to only having about 30gb left, and there are just not enough folders in my files to take up the remaining 400gb. In fact, recently I decided to remove all of the older data, including deleting all old files. This only reduced the amount of space I have left even more, so that I don’t know what to do now. I also have a problem with files going back 2 weeks have vanished. I don’t think that there is any problem with files being left in hidden or other files in a location I don’t know about.
